Deadline day: Apply for your moose permit now!

Nothing screws up a potential moose-hunting trip like a buddy or three who somehow forgot to enter the state-run permit lottery before the deadline passed.

Since I’m one of those lucky guys who’s sitting on the sidelines this year after winning a permit in 2017, the only way I’m going hunting is if one of my pals has his name drawn, and he decides to invite me along.

The message of today’s blog is simple. ENTER THE LOTTERY! TODAY IS YOUR LAST DAY TO DO SO!

As I write this, one of those hunting buddies — also a co-worker — is sitting right beside me. He hasn’t entered the lottery yet. He knows the deadline is 11:59 p.m. tonight. And his procrastination is starting to get on my nerves.

This might be his lucky year, you see. And if it’s his lucky year, that means that the rest of our intrepid band of hunters will get to head into the woods for another great hunt come September or October.

So do yourself and your hunting buddies a favor. Enter the lottery. You can do so at mefishwildlife.com, and entering only takes a minute.

Then, you can cross your fingers until June 9, when the lucky winners will be drawn in Skowhegan. Good luck!
