The Maine Warden Service is looking for help in solving a case in which a cow moose was illegally shot during the October moose season, and Operation Game Thief is offering a $2,500 reward.
According to a warden service press release, the cow moose was killed in Wildlife Management District 8 — a district where no cow permits were issued this year.
Wardens were contacted and told that the moose had been shot and left to waste.
“The cow moose was reported to have been covered up by tree boughs on the edge of the 12 Mile Bog Road (ATV trail), in Rockwood Strip, T2 R1,” according to the press release. “Game wardens have located the moose and are seeking information.”
Anyone with information about this case, or any other illegal hunting activity, is urged to call Operation Game Thief at 1-800-ALERT-US or the Piscataquis County Sheriff’s dispatcher at 564-3304.
