Whitewater Weekend to feature races on Souadabscook, Marsh Stream

Now that water’s flowing on the state’s rivers and streams, avid paddlers are in the middle of a busy racing schedule.

And while much attention is always paid to the state’s biggest canoe race that will be held in Kenduskeag and Bangor in a week, there are other races to consider.

This weekend, in fact, is being billed as Whitewater Weekend, and races are scheduled for both Hampden and Winterport.

First up: The Souadabscook Stream Canoe Race, which will be held on Saturday, April 12. The registration desk will open at 9 a.m. at Vafiades Landing on the Bog Road in Hampden. The race will begin at 11 a.m.

On Sunday, April 13, paddlers will head to the Marsh Stream Canoe Race. Registration opens at 10 a.m. at the Winterport Riverside Riders Snowmobile Club on Pine View Drive — that’s located at the intersection of Stream Road and Route 139. The race begins at noon at the bridge on Loggin Road.

All profits from the race will benefit the Make a Wish Foundation.
