If you’re looking to get off the beaten path on Independence Day, you may want to consider heading to one of the state’s premiere outdoor destinations, Grand Lake Stream.
The organizers of the “Grand Lake Stream, America” Fourth of July Celebration have a full slate of activities on tap for the holiday, and hope you can head down to enjoy the day.
For years Grand Lake Stream, which sits in the woods about 10 miles off the busy stretch of Route 1 between Calais and Houlton, has lured outdoorsmen and women with the promise of hefty salmon, big deer, and top-notch upland bird hunting.
Among the activities on tap for July 4: children’s games in the park, frog racing, tubing on the stream, and a classic and antique car show. Or perhaps you’d like to enter (or watch) the blueberry pie eating contest, or take part in the horseshoe tournament or the fly-casting competition. Or maybe a timed kayak or canoe run down Grand Lake Stream is more your style.
Add in a “world renowned” barbeque dinner that will be provided by area guides, and “The World’s Best Parade by a Dam Site,” and you’ve got the makings of a pretty awesome holiday.
