When Black Friday dawns and thousands of frenzied shoppers flock to stores, searching for the biggest, best bargains, I will not be among them.
I will be at work. Or in the woods. Or working (otherwise known as “hunting”) in the woods.
But I will not be trading elbows with overly aggressive grandmothers at the local big box store. My sister? She’ll be out there. My sister-in-law? She’ll be out there, too.
But not me.
If I lived closer to Scarborough, however, I might be more willing to ignore my personal “no Black Friday shopping” code and queue up.
That’s because Cabela’s is having its own Black Friday celebration. And while you won’t find $20 flat-screen TVs or $50 video game consoles (or whatever they’re selling at the other stores), you will find some great outdoor gear and door prizes galore.
According to a Cabela’s press release, every one of the company’s stores will observe Black Friday and will present visitors with gifts worth a total of $240,000, nationwide.
here’s how it works: The first 600 customers, age 18 and older, will be given a random mystery envelope containing information about their free gift. Winners will then be able to pick up their gift at the store.
Among the prizes up for grabs: A Browning rifle, a Masterbuilt electric smoker, Nikon Pro binoculars, a Cabela’s Realtree camouflage hoodie, or a Cabela’s gift card that can be worth as much as $100.
Early arriving customers will be served coffee and snacks. Entertainment, campfires and games are on tap as well.
Stores nationwide will open at 5 a.m.
I’m not even going to guess what time you’ll have to get in line to be among the first 600.
As for me … well … I think I’ve changed my mind.
I’ll be home in bed.
