One of the cool things about working at a newspaper that’s been in business since 1889 is having access to resources like the photo I’ve included with this blog.
Cool shot, isn’t it? BDN photographer Danny Maher’s photo captures a great slice of Maine tradition — hunters lining up for some early morning grub at the 1955 Old Town hunter’s breakfast. According to the caption, more than 1,500 hungry hunters (and their friends and family members, no doubt) were served that morning.
The tradition of staging elaborate breakfasts for deer hunters continues to this day, and civic organizations and schools will again prepare those feasts in the coming weeks.
I can almost smell the bacon and baked beans now.
If your group is holding a hunter’s breakfast this year (or a lunch or supper, for that matter), we want to help you out by letting hungry hunters know where they can find a feed.
