L.L. Bean gearing up for Spring Fishing Weekend

If you’re in the outdoor expo mood, you may consider taking a side trip to Freeport next weekend for an event that’s all about fishing.

L.L. Bean will hold its 22nd annual Spring Fishing Weekend at the flagship store with activities planned from March 16-18.

Among the highlights: Legendary fly caster and author Lefty Kreh will be on hand to sign books, tell stories and share tips with attendees; Also, Bill Gorman, L.L. Bean’s great-grandson, will be at the store on March 18 to sign copies of the 100th anniversary edition of Hunting, Fishing and Camping. He’ll be available from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m.

Featured fly tiers at the event will be David Klausmeyer, Don Bastian and Sharon E. Wright. In addition, 14-year-old angler Tyler Befus, who has already traveled to many of the world’s most spectacular fly fishing spots, will present seminars throughout the weekend.

And if you’re a Red Sox fan, you may want to search out former Sox pitcher Jim Lonborg, who will be there (along with the 2004 and 2007 World Series trophies) from 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. on Saturday.
